Job Description
The Counselors-in-Training (High School Volunteers & Interns) reports directly to the Camp Manager(s)
and is responsible for aiding in the supervision of all camp participants. CITs are high school volunteers
or interns who assist senior camp counselors in delivering camp activities and ensuring campers have a fun
and safe experience. This is a leadership development program designed to help CITs gain experience in working
with children, developing leadership skills, and contributing to the overall success of the camp.
Qualifications
- Must be a high school student (ages 15 - 18).
- Interest in working with children and/or pursuing a career in education, counseling, or related fields.
- Commitment to health and wellness.
- Previous work with summer camps or interaction with large groups of children, preferred.
- Taking initiative in socializing with campers without being asked is a must.
- Experience in arts, sports, or academic education is a plus.
- Enthusiastic, responsible, and dependable with a positive attitude.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and work well as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn and take on new challenges.
- Ability to be patient and show empathy towards campers.
- Availability for the full duration of the camp session, including pre-camp training and camp sessions.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Supervisor
Directly responsible to Senior Counselor and Camp Manager.
Responsibilities
- Assist Senior and Junior Counselors in planning, organizing, and leading camp activities.
- Support campers during activities, meals, and free time.
- Ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all campers.
- Monitor campers for safety, well-being, and participation.
- Ensure campers are safe (hydrated, play areas free of hazards).
- Assist with camper check-in and check-out.
- Help set up and clean up before and after activities.
- Model positive behavior, teamwork, and leadership.
- Participate in daily staff meetings and training sessions.
- Communicate issues or concerns to senior staff or camp directors.
- Follow camp protocols, including emergency procedures.
- Assist in daily activities as instructed by counselors.
- Maintain communication with campers’ parents.
- Conduct headcounts throughout the day.
- Adhere to camp operating procedures and protocols.
- Interact with parents/guardians during drop-off and pick-up.
- Assist in maintaining camp integrity and cleanliness.
- Carry and manage camp supplies as needed.
