FLORIDA CITY “FIGHTING CHANCE” BUSINESS RECOVERY GRANT

Notice of Funds Available

The City of Florida City announces the availability of grant funding to assist locally owned independent businesses that have been significantly impacted by the effects of COVID-19.

To qualify, businesses must be privately held small businesses in certain critically impacted business sectors, located within the boundaries of Florida City. They must have possessed a Florida City business license as of March 1, 2019. Businesses must have fewer than 25 fulltime employees. Businesses will be required to document and affirm significant losses due to COVID-19. Businesses must be re-opened for business at the time of reimbursement and must have been successfully operating since before March 1, 2019. Businesses must be without any outstanding financial obligations to the City of Florida City.

City of Florida City employees and family members are not eligible for these funds. Non-profit organizations are not eligible for funding. Businesses whose regular business model contained significant drive thru/take away components as key elements of the business prior to the pandemic are not eligible for funding. Any business failing prior to the Pandemic are not eligible for funding. No home based business are eligible for funding.

Critically impacted business sectors include independent restaurants, retail bakeries, event spaces, hair, beauty and personal services and others listed in Program Policies and Procedures. (Note: As this is a fluid situation requiring the support of the City of Florida City, this list is not intended to be all-inclusive.)

All business applicants are required to pick up application packets from the Receptionist, Administration Offices, Second Floor, City Hall located at 404 East Palm Drive in Florida City. Packets contain Program Policies and Procedures and a Program Application.

All applications must be returned to the same City Hall location by 4:00 pm on Friday, October 30, 2020 and will be evaluated and funded on a first come, first served basis, for qualified applicants ONLY, until the funding is exhausted. ONLY COMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL BE CONSIDERED.

Strictly no lobbying of City staff will be allowed. Anyone approaching the Mayor, Commissioners or City Officials to attempt to discuss or influence the evaluation of a business’ application will be denied funding.
